Part-Time Cost Accountant (Manufacturing)

Pay Rate: $35-$42/hour, based on experience
Our manufacturing client in Charlestown, MA is seeking a Part-Time Cost Accountant to join a fast-growing finance team. This is a hands-on, staff-level role supporting high-volume daily accounting operations with a strong focus on expense management, inventory, AP, and cost accounting. The ideal candidate is tech-savvy, a quick learner, and eager to improve processes and automation in a scaling environment.
This role will work closely with operations, vendors, and internal stakeholders to support timely closes, accurate cost reporting, and continuous improvement of accounting workflows.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 4+ years of accounting experience in a manufacturing or inventory-driven environment (cost accounting exposure required)
- Manufacturing, hardware, robotics, or technology company required
- Experience automating accounting processes and creating and executing efficiencies
Hands-on experience with:
- AP / AR processing
- Expense coding and high-volume transaction environments
- Working experience with Quickbooks and Nesuite, implementation experience highly considered.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, data manipulation, reconciliations) required
- Familiarity with Avalara or other sales & use tax platforms preferred
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive; comfortable advocating for improvements
- Self-starter who learns quickly, thinks critically, and "takes the next step"
Key Responsibilities
- Process and review high-volume expense and credit card activity (1,200+ monthly transactions) using Ramp; ensure accurate coding and reconciliation
- Manage Accounts Payable functions, including vendor setup, invoice processing, approvals, and disbursements
- Support Accounts Receivable, including customer invoicing and collections
- Collaborate with operations and production teams to track material, labor, and overhead costs
- Analyze manufacturing costs, inventory transactions, and production overhead for accuracy and efficiency
- Assist with month-end close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and cost analysis with the goal of accelerating the close timeline
- Maintain inventory integrity through reconciliations, audits, and manual inventory processing as needed
- Support sales & use tax compliance across 7-8 states, including registrations, filings, and annual reporting (Avalara experience a plus)
